3 Activities to Improve Mindset

Writer's picture: Aaron FruitstoneAaron Fruitstone

Everyone's heard the quotes. "Outside of your comfort zone is where the magic happens". "Get comfortable being uncomfortable". And the like. That's all great motivational speak, but how do we get ourselves performing activities that will create a growth mindset? Today, we'll look at 3 exercises to perform daily that will help you gain greater focus on "kaizen", or constant and steady improvement.

Exercise #1: Learn to mediate

I used to think meditation was bullshit for yogis and Buddhist monks. Until I gave it a try. Not only is it challenging, it's a practice that can be done daily in just about any environment!

You can take meditation classes or follow along on YouTube, but there are awesome apps out there now that you can download onto your phone. They'll take you through guided meditation, help you focus/relax/sleep, and you can choose the duration of practice.

I use the CALM app. Other highly rated meditation apps are HEADSPACE, and THE MINDFULNESS APP. Check 'em out and do it!

Exercise #2: Accomplish 3 major tasks daily

I'm a total to-do list dude. That said, I prided myself for years about the shear amount of shit I'd get done in a day. Until I started falling behind on critical tasks (those that actually put money into my pocket) and would focus on the menial crap. So, I'd roll the critical tasks over until the next day's list, and would neglect them then, too. On and on...

That is, until I started prioritizing my lists. I use the COLORNOTE app on Android to create my daily list, and create a list the night before of things that need to be accomplished the following day. The first THREE tasks on the list are the MOST IMPORTANT things to do that day. Everything else is gravy.

Why 3 tasks? Research has shown that we are able to devote attention to 3 critical tasks each day consistently, and will basically fuck around the rest of the day on less important stuff. By doing the 3 critical tasks FIRST, you will be able to accomplish far more with far less effort, more efficiently.

AND WHO ISN'T ABOUT GETTING FAR MORE PRODUCTIVITY WITH FAR LESS WORK???

Exercise #3: Read Personal Development Books

I'm not talking about voodoo magic stuff. I'm talking about real books (yes, the paper kind) that are written by people that have achieved things that are in alignment with your dreams.

If you want to get better at business, read books by successful entrepreneurs about their strategies. A couple of my favorites are "How to Win Friends and Influence People", by Dale Carnegie, and "Money: Master the Game", from Tony Robbins. There are tons more out there, and I'm reading something ALL THE TIME.

For discipline and mindset, a couple of my favorites are "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu, and "Unbeatable Mind" by SEALFIT founder Mark Devine.

The most important thing is to read daily. Broaden your knowledge and grow.

Now, go get shit done!
